Every single alteration that occurs at work or in the work environment that affects the ways in which employees must act is the change. Change comes with the pros and cons.
Since the change has a widespread effect on the whole organization, some parts of the workplace mechanism are resistant to new decisions. We have three types of resistance among the employee towards the change. Coming directly from our book, logical resistance based on disagreement with the facts, rational reasoning, logic, and science (Newstrom). Employees deem that they need time to adjust, a possibility of less desirable conditions such as skill downgrading, questioning the feasibility of the change and economic costs of change. But on another hand from this resistance, we have benefit in the sense that it  Encourages reexamination of change proposals, so it is double check, and necessary modifications are made to the process to ensure they are appropriate.Psychological Resistance which is also called emotional attitudes; in this type of resistance employees let their emotions influence reality. Fear of the unknown, low tolerance of change, disliking the proponents of the change, lack of trust in others and need for security. The benefit of this resistance is the encouragement of better communication which would lead to acceptance and eventually create a much better environment. Sociological Resistance – which is logical, when it is seen as a product of a challenge to group interests, norms, and values (Newstrom). Changing norms is very difficult therefore this resistance is very powerful. Resistance is mirrored in the creation of political coalitions, and direct opposition to the change because it is opposing to group values. A possible benefit is that the manager or employer will understand his employees on a more profound level and find a way to implement the change but not go against the group.
Costs are more significant than benefits, especially in the first two types of resistance where individuals overthink, don’t have the facts, mostly allow their emotions to recreate the pessimistic scenario and go with it. On another hand, sociological resistance is the one that managers should be very careful about where group interests and norms have to be taken into consideration about the change.
