PEER 1
Ethics is a moral philosophy and perceived difference between right and wrong. Ethics is the investigation of matters of right and wrong, justice, and injustice, good and bad, virtue and vice, rights and responsibilities. It is a code of conduct one strives to live by. In an academic setting this means not plagiarizing, presenting accurate information, and not being deceitful. This is also required in a professional setting as well as giving informed consent, keeping confidentiality, doing whatever possible to keep those from harm including both humans and animals, and safeguarding the welfare and rights of others.
An ethical dilemma that I can recall is one that I have often had to deal with at work being the only Buyer for the casino. In many cases when I go to work in the morning before I can settle in a have people who are too lazy and spoiled to learn the new system and figure things out themselves. As soon as they run out of something that they missed ordering or forgot to order for an event they come running to me. Forcing me to rush vendors to shop items or I must leave work and use my p-card to make sure they have something they missed. The dilemma becomes what should one do to motivate others to do their job. This issue is still in the process of being resolved. I mentioned just one of a few problems I have with co-workers it is much more to the story. I have asked over and over to train them on the new system, I have made cheat sheets to teach them how to search in the system, I have asked them to make sure to keep up with their par and inventory to avoid asking vendors over and over to come back out for delivers. This provides accountability, keeps problems to a minimum, and is a creative solution in which problematic employees such as the few I seem to currently be dealing with tend to weed themselves out.
My general education courses have influenced my ethical values by providing knowledge of other views, multiple ways of looking at issues, topics, people, and views, as well as providing the ability to critically thinking, discuss, and communicate effectively. In addition, I have gained discipline, the ability to explore alternative views, time management skills, knowledge of different ethical and cultural viewpoints, appreciation of diversity, can explore ideas through crossing disciplinary boundaries, I’m better able to solve problems through creative and critical thinking, I’m competent in researching a topic, have learned how to learn effectively and efficiently, and think more independently, among other increase abilities and skills I have honed throughout my college education.
A college educated person has several responsibilities to society including not using their knowledge to cause harm, as well as being expected to support themselves and their children and responsibly utilizing their education for the betterment of society and humanity. In addition, it is one’s responsibility to help others while being honest, trustworthy, and the best one can be, as well as actively and purposefully repaying society through leadership and selflessness for the benefit of everyone. Education provides opportunities and the ability to be able to help society.

PEER 2
Being ethical as it relates to personal means to establish a high level of trust, it may seem that trust is difficult to document it is extremely important to both our moral and economic values. Ethics as it relates to academics is shows ones’ integrity, especially as it relates to online courses and earning the degree that you are entitled to. It proves who you are as an individual and how you will perform once you graduate and enter the workforce. It is my belief that it does not matter what is your profession ethics should be at the top of the priority list. Your overall success depends on your management of your daily activities.
Without diving too deep into the details an ethical dilemma I have encountered was deciding to report a colleague that I was made aware that was stealing from the company and its customers. I ultimately made the decision to do the right thing and report the employee which resulted in an arrest and permanent ban of employment in a specific industry.
In all honesty I must admit that it was my upbringing that has influenced my ethical values. Although there have been a few courses that in some ways reinforced what I learned growing up, the core of my ethical values came from the way I was raised.
It is my belief that a college educated person have different duties to society than someone that is not educated because they have been equipped with a certain set of skills in a controlled environment that has also exposed them to other like-mind folks who has encouraged and challenged them in areas not presented to those that are not as educated. Because of this formal education, it is also my belief that these individuals owe it to their respective communities to take the information back and share it accordingly.
