You have been authorized to hire the new employees in order to carry out the organizational goals you have identified for the two functional areas you are examining in the Atha Corporation case study. For this assessment, determine the allocation of your new employees by revising the organizational charts for both the human resources area and the additional functional area you have chosen.
You can use Microsoft Office Word, Excel, or PowerPoint to create your revised organizational charts. The organizational charts are given in Word format so that you can make your revisions within the same document, if you choose. Note: For accessible versions of the organizational charts, refer instead to the PDF versions in the Resources.
Follow these steps to complete this assessment:

Review your managerial directives and parameters in the Executive Department Management Instructions (linked in the Resources).
Conduct independent research to familiarize yourself with the process of developing organizational charts. You may find the materials listed in the Suggested Resources helpful, or you may refer to other resources.
Download the organizational chart for the human resources area (linked in the Resources under the Required Resource heading).

Examine the organizational chart to determine where the new staff resources are to be assigned.
Revise the organizational chart to reflect the allocation of staff resources to be added including relevant positions from a full range of job categories.
At the bottom of the revised organizational chart, write a brief justification for your decisions. As part of that, describe the need for the revision, comparing elements from the old and new versions.

Download the organizational chart for the additional functional area you selected (linked in the Resources under the Required Resource heading).

Write a 1–2 page summary analysis of the revised organizational charts you just completed. To provide the executives with the best possible understanding of your work, your summary should address the following points:

Explain how the revised organizational structure (including the new chain of command) influences the role of management in each functional area and identify potential challenges for the relevant managers that result from the structural change.
Explain how the revised organizational structure (including the new chain of command) influences the role of management in the additional functional area you selected, and identify potential challenges for the relevant managers that result from the structural change.
Indicate the research you used to support your work in arriving at the goals and activities.
Describe the current or past experience (if any) you used as the basis for this activity.

Based on an executive audience, your summary should be well organized and written in clear, succinct language. Follow APA rules for attributing sources that support your analysis and conclusions.

The four basic principles of management are to plan, organize, lead, and control. Last week, we focused on the first of those four, to plan.
Your job, as the department manager for human resources and your other chosen functional area, is to convert the goals you have been given into objectives, activities, and tasks that can be measured and accomplished. They should also align the daily activities of your department with the overall company goals.
You already have the beginnings of an action plan. This week, you will be asked to allocate the resources you have been given, into an efficient and effective unit, in order to accomplish your goals. You may have been assigned additional assets, like equipment, but you have also been allocated additional staff.
It is up to you to work with human resources to hire those new employees, and to determine the configuration of your area of responsibility. You will develop several open-ended interview questions to ask your potential employees, in order to uncover their hidden talents.
Review the existing organization chart and determine where the new staff will provide you with the greatest possibility for success.
As the department manager for human resources, you will develop a list of talents or strengths needed for new hires to be successful.
You will want four, strong open-ended questions for human resources and four strong open-ended questions for your declared functional area, to help unlock the hidden talent of your interview candidates. A total of eight questions will be included in your Strategic Alignment Worksheet or SAW.
The choices are yours to make. You will be asked to create a new organization chart to represent the new staffing strategy you have chosen.
In addition to creating two organizational charts, you will be asked to write an essay to describe, in detail, the way you have decided to organize your department.
