When it comes to having control of my time or not

When it comes to having control of my time or not, I am still not sure. I know that when I was working regularly at my job there was a sense of competition to do the most or better work. I admit that sometimes it was a motivator to do a better job or at least seem more productive than my co workers. I didn’t work at a corporate job though. So I am sure It may have an entirely different vibe to the whole idea. From my experience and what I would believe is human nature for the most part, that is to do the best you can. I took great satisfaction in hearing patients refer to me as the ” the best” they had come in contact with. It motivated me and I know that a lot of times that helped me function in a manner that allowed me to be available and ” present” in the aspects of the job. Because after a while not only was it patients who requested me but managers who sought to fulfill those requests along with co workers who would come to me for help. it was just a nice feeling. I will state that It wasn’t just myself, by far I personally feel that the staff on my shift were some of the best! There were quite a few of us who were very proficient. It was also nice to be mentioned at meetings as being the best shift at times. I think it at times put pressure as a shift to keep performing, which may be the point of having the managers and bosses use that as a tool to aid the productivity of their facility. So sometimes I would say that I was in control of the amount of time and the effort i would give, the other part just feels that ” that was the job”. Now that I am home I can say I don’t function in that capacity. I wonder if its because of the lack of recognition? I don’t mean that in a bad way Just that it is not the same type of requirements to function.
