BIBL 240 – Final Project: Philippians Lesson Plans

Final Project: Philippians Lesson PlansThe final project for the course will be for you to design, create, and critique your own set of lesson plans geared specifically for your teaching context. The lessons will cover the book of Philippians, which will be the subject of some of our weekly discussion questions. (If for some reason you wish to create a set of lesson plans for a different book, this must be approved in advance by the professor. Approval will not be granted for lessons that you have already developed in another context or that you have used previously in a ministry or other setting.)For this project you will need to do the following:Clearly identify the context for which your lessons are designed. Include description of the intended audience as well as the setting in which these lessons would be taught (children’s ministry, youth ministry, college, adults, Sunday School, small group, large group, etc.). This does not have to be a real setting. In other words, you can design your lessons for some setting that you see yourself teaching at in the future.Provide a creative title and a descriptive and engaging overview of your lessons. Indicate how many lessons, how you are dividing the book of Philippians, and what the main idea of each particular lesson will be. (You may divide Philippians any way you like but will need to cover the entire book of Philippians and have a minimum of 4 lessons and a maximum of 8 lessons). This overview would be the descriptive text that would appear in a curriculum catalog and that would make me as a teacher want to consider using this for my group or class. Make it clear, concise, and interesting!Provide a detailed outline for each individual lesson. Each of the four to eight lessons should contain items such as: lesson title, the passage under consideration, main idea, learning objectives, suggested application, discussion questions, learning activities, multi-media resources, lecture outline, notes to the teacher, etc. Depending on your context you will have some of these items and not others. Someone should be able to take your lesson plans and, without much difficulty deliver the lesson you have designed. If you are designing large group lessons or sermons that primarily involve presenting ideas (rather than group discussion or activities) you do not need to provide the whole text for the sermon in word-for-word form. Bullet point outline is fine (include main points, illustrations, applications, etc.).Your own evaluation of the lessons you have created. In 2-3 double spaced pages at the end of your set of lessons, evaluate your lessons as you would any other set of lesson plans. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the lessons as designed? Be honest with yourself! Use the form on pages 206 and 207 of CBT as a guideline for evaluating your work. You do not need to hand in that form itself, but your 2-3 pages of comments about strengths and weaknesses should reflect the issues raised by the form.Grading criteria:Setting and context clearly identified: up to 10 pointsTitle and vivid descriptive overview: up to 20 pointsIndividual lessons are complete, creative, cover the text, reflect a thoughtful consideration of both the text, the students, and the learning context, and demonstrate intentional integration of the course material: up to 40 pointsReflective critique: up to 20 pointsGrammar and mechanics: up to 10 points
