For me, I think that the top 3 qualities that I would look for in a team would be humbleness, genuine personalities, and great enthusiasm.  Humble – a team must be humble to acknowledge their mistakes and their peers. This is not only a measure of maturity it is also a measure of how well the team can learn. Teams that lack this ability are doomed to make the same mistakes. They are also negative to cohesion if they cannot acknowledge the ideas of their peers. Genuine Personalities – a team must be real with each other. They should not be afraid to be their true selves. If they have to hide key aspects then trust is not established in the team. Not only that people must be able to talk real with each other. This creates an environment of innovation as they are able to speak freely with each other without ill intent or ill will. They also become humble this way as they do not feel the need to flex their intellectual muscle and try to appear better than they are. Enthusiasm – This is key. You have to be excited about what you are doing. There is no better way to gain great people and customers than being truly excited about what you’re doing. It gets everyone around you excited. Not only that everyone loves seeing people do what they love. If the team has great enthusiasm, have the ability to be real with each other and can humble themselves and learn then innovation will be born. As Satell puts it: “truth is you don’t need the best people – you need the best teams.” (Satell, 2018) Satell discusses 4 ways to build an innovative team. He considers that the four things that need to be hiring for mission, promote psychological safety, create diversity, and value teamwork. This helps to create an environment where innovative teams can blossom. He states that modern problems are much too complex for one genius innovator to solve by himself. So chances are you already have innovators in your company, but they haven’t had the platform to become innovative.  I picked these qualities because I think that they drive everything that Satell put out. Humbleness and being genuine promote both psychological safety and diversity. Enthusiasm drives the hire for mission by creating excitement for work and ways to value teamwork. To me, they are the recipe for success. That is because they drive innovation through idea generation and balance.

What are the top three qualities you would look for in a management team for a new business venture?  With a new business venture, the right talent is vital to a company’s success so therefore the recruited team member should have certain qualities or attributes. Although there are many qualities that are important, the top three qualities that I would look for are creative skills, formal credentials, and drive.  Creative Skills: When starting a new business venture there are processes that may be used in the beginning and changed as time goes on. When it comes to processes within a new business venture, there can be speculation of what type of processes to implement and what may be the most effective methods to use for an organization but it may quickly change. Change is also inevitable with businesses because in order to compete competitively, a company has to change as processes change and technology is update to ensure that they are giving customers quality products and services. In addition, there is a need to not only compete but win.  Formal Credentials: With talent that has credentials it can add credibility to an organization and would help with investor relationships. In addition, the credentials that they have give the company a reputational value that can rub off on a new business venture.  Drive: Motivation to keep driving forward and getting results is a great quality to have especially if it sparks creativity and problem-solving skills. It will help workers stay dedicated to accomplishing the goals set by the organization and keep them focused on getting results.  Why did you pick these qualities? How do these qualities act as predictors of future success for a new venture?  I chose these qualities because they are qualities that I possess and because I feel that with a new business venture you need a good mixture of qualities to mesh that will make the organization diverse. Each quality can bring a different perspective to the table and I feel that if a candidate possesses these qualities, they would be more motivated to work with a team and be just as dedicated to the organization’s success. These qualities act as predictors of future success for a new venture because they can aid in ensuring the company does not go to fast and if a process does not work, they will be motivated to find what works better. For a person with drive, there is continuous strives to keep making progress. A person with credentials can make the business seem more valid and give it a good reputational value and make the venture more credible.  Lastly, with creative skills a person can be innovative and come up with new ways of doing things and updating processes as technology progresses. I feel that the three qualities balance out and that the qualities will not crash and that everyone will be devoted to doing whatever is necessary for the venture to either cause disruptive innovation or gain a good market share and change the playing field so that they can win.
